Your practice is broken!
Here's how to fix it!
I've spent 25 years as a professional violinist, and I'll be honest—consistent practice has always been my biggest challenge. I see the same struggle in my students every single day. We practice sporadically, forget what we worked on last week, and wonder why progress feels so slow.
This journal exists because I finally cracked the code on what actually works. And now I'm proving it works at the highest level—I'm using it to prepare for my ARSM performance diploma in June 2026, with just 22 weeks to go.
If you're tired of feeling like your practice isn't moving you forward, this is for you.

The ARSM Journey: Why Growth Never Stops
After 25 years of professional performing, I could rest on my laurels. I've performed at hundreds of weddings and corporate events. I run two successful businesses. I teach violin in schools and privately. By most measures, I've "made it."
But here's what I believe: mastery isn't a destination. It's a practice. And the moment we stop challenging ourselves is the moment we stop growing.
Why I'm Doing This
In June 2026, I'm sitting my ARSM diploma exam—one of the most rigorous qualifications in classical music. That's 22 weeks away. I'm committing to intensive practice, 5 days a week. Six pieces of advanced repertoire that will push me to my edge. A deadline that feels ambitious.
I'm not doing this because I need another credential. I'm doing this because I need to live what I teach.
The Philosophy
As a teacher, my students watch me. They see whether I actually believe in continuous improvement, or whether I just talk about it. When I work with my own coach, Callum Smart, pushing myself at the highest level, I become a better teacher. I understand their struggles because I'm in the trenches with them. I model what lifelong learning actually looks like.
If I'm going to teach my students that growth is constant, that there's always another level to reach, that practice is never "done"—then I need to prove it by doing it myself.

FAQ's
How long will it last?
The Practice Journal contains 6 months of daily practice pages, weekly planning layouts, and monthly reflection sections. Perfect for intensive preparation periods like exam prep, or ongoing practice tracking throughout the year.
Can I use it for other instruments?
Absolutely! While designed with violin in mind, the practice framework works for any instrument—piano, cello, flute, guitar, you name it. The goal-setting, progress tracking, and technique focus are universal to all musicians.
Is there a digital version?
The Practice Journal is intentionally designed as a physical product. Research shows that handwriting engages deeper learning and memory retention than digital note-taking. Plus, there's something powerful about flipping back through pages you've filled and seeing your progress in your own handwriting. That said, I'm exploring companion digital resources (like video tutorials and downloadable practice templates) to enhance the experience.
What if I'm a beginner? Is this journal only for advanced musicians?
Not at all! The Practice Journal is designed for musicians at every level—from complete beginners to advanced diploma students. The framework adapts to your goals. A beginner might focus on technique foundations and building consistent habits, while an advanced musician uses it for exam prep or performance refinement. The system works because it's about intentional practice, not your current level.
When will the journal be available to order?
The Practice Journal launched in January 2026 and will be available around 15th January. First edition copies are limited to 500, so if you're interested, I'd recommend joining the waitlist to secure yours early. I'm also using it daily to prepare for my ARSM diploma in June 2026—follow my journey on Instagram to see it in action!
How is this different from other practice journals or apps out there?
Most practice tools focus on logging hours—just tracking time spent. The Practice Journal is different because it's built on the principle of intentional practice. You'll set specific goals for each session, identify the techniques you're working on, track what actually improved, and reflect on what's working. It's designed by someone who is both a professional performer and a teacher, so it combines real-world performance demands with proven teaching methodology. Plus, there's no subscription fee, no app to crash, and no distractions—just you, your violin, and a system that actually works.
