Professional Violinist. Violin & Music Theory Teacher. NLP-Trained Mindset & Confidence Coach.

About Lexxie

Who I am

I'm Alexandra — most people know me as Lexxie. I'm a professional performing violinist, an experienced violin and music theory teacher, and a qualified Mindset and Confidence Coach currently training in NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). I'm based in Crowle, North Lincolnshire, and I teach from my studio here, within local schools across the Isle of Axholme, and online via Zoom.

I've been playing violin since I was nine years old. I've been performing professionally at weddings, corporate events, and touring alongside some of the biggest names in music for well over a decade. And I've been teaching — properly, seriously, with my whole heart in it — since 2020.

My Story

I started violin lessons aged nine at Belton C of E Primary School with my first teacher, Rita Everett. But the moment that changed everything came when I was twelve.

My dad took me busking. Standing there on the street with my violin, I met Dr Steve Johnson — at the time the former Second Principal of the London Symphony Orchestra. He stopped, listened, and then took the time to work with me. He made me feel like anything was possible. It's because of Steve that I became the sight reader I am today. When he moved abroad, I was genuinely heartbroken. That's how much of an impact the right teacher can have.

Over the years I've been fortunate to work with some extraordinary coaches. William Dutton brought a passion and intensity to playing that I'd never encountered before — he was an outstanding player and an exceptional teacher, and when his own path led him to Milan to train as a conductor, I had to find someone new. That's when I found Callum Smart, my current coach, who has completely transformed my understanding of technique, muscle memory, and how the brain processes learning.

I also trained in improvisation with Mark Ellis, an accomplished jazz saxophonist, which opened up an entire world of musical knowledge I didn't know I was missing — and deepened my understanding of how the brain learns, how muscle memory works, and how to practise in a way that actually sticks.

I believe the best teachers never stop being students. I still have a coach. I'm still learning. That's what I want to pass on.

Performing Career

Alongside teaching, I perform professionally across the UK and abroad. I've supported musicians on tour including Russell Watson, Atomic Kitten, and Boyzone, and performed on shows alongside Katie Melua, Scouting for Girls, and Tom Chaplin from Keane.

Corporate and event highlights include a top-secret event for Rolex, the BMW i3 launch, the Chelsea Flower Show press day, a Barclays Bank regional celebration, the Best of British Variety Show, and the Women in Business Awards.

That real-world experience — performing under pressure, in high-stakes environments, in front of large audiences — shapes everything about how I teach. Particularly when it comes to helping students manage nerves, build performance confidence, and believe in what they're capable of.

The Mindset Coaching Side

The more I taught, the more I saw the same pattern. Students who had the technical ability to do something, but couldn't get out of their own way. Children who'd freeze before a performance. Adults who'd quit because one difficult period knocked their confidence for years. Teenagers who decided they weren't musical because one teacher or one exam made them feel that way.

I trained with The Coaching Masters and became a qualified Mindset and Confidence Coach because I knew that teaching the violin wasn't enough on its own. I'm now also training in NLP — Neuro-Linguistic Programming — because understanding how language shapes thought, how beliefs are formed, and how the brain responds to pressure gives me an entirely different toolkit for helping students move through the blocks that hold them back.

Musical progress and personal growth are not two separate things. At The Violin Academy, they happen together.

The Studio & Roxy

Students come to my studio in Crowle and are welcomed with warmth from the moment they arrive. I'm genuinely interested in how they're doing — what they've been up to, what they're finding hard at school, what they're excited about. Lessons here aren't transactional. They're built on relationship.

And then there's Roxy. She's six and a half, officially a cockapoo (though she has her own opinions about that), and she takes her role very seriously. She sits and listens intently to every student who plays, offers emotional support when needed, and is, without question, the most popular member of The Violin Academy.
