The Lessons

Whether you've never picked up a violin before or you're working towards your next grade, lessons at The Violin Academy are built around you — your pace, your goals, and your learning style.

Every student is different. Some want to play for the love of it. Some are working towards ABRSM or Trinity exams. Some are returning to an instrument they played years ago. Whatever brought you here, you're in the right place.

Lessons are available face-to-face at the studio in Crowle, in local schools across the Isle of Axholme, and online via Zoom.

What We Cover

Lessons are tailored to each student, but typically cover:

  • Posture, bow hold, and technique from the very beginning — done right, so it doesn't need unpicking later

  • Music reading and note recognition

  • Scales, arpeggios, and technical exercises

  • Pieces — from classical repertoire to contemporary music

  • Aural training and musicianship skills

  • Performance preparation, including managing nerves and building stage confidence

  • Exam preparation for ABRSM and MTB (Trinity) syllabuses

Who Lessons Are For

Children: Lessons are available from around age 5–6 upwards. Young beginners are taught in a way that keeps curiosity and enjoyment at the centre — because a child who loves playing is a child who practises. Progress is celebrated at every step, not just at exam time.

Adults: It is never too late to start. Whether you're a complete beginner or picking the violin back up after a gap, adult learners are very welcome. Lessons are judgement-free, patient, and paced entirely around you.

Students working towards exams: Exam preparation is available for ABRSM and MTB (Trinity) at all grades. Grades 6, 7, and 8 carry UCAS points — worth knowing if you're a sixth-form student looking to strengthen a university application.

The Mindset Coaching Difference

Untitled design-2_edited.jpg

Lexxie is not only a professional performing violinist — she's also a qualified Mindset and Confidence Coach currently training in NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming).

That means lessons here go beyond technique. Students are supported in building self-belief, resilience, and focus — skills that make them better musicians and more confident people. Particularly valuable for students who struggle with performance anxiety, exam nerves, or a tendency to be hard on themselves.
