What Are Group Masterclasses?
Group Masterclasses at The Violin Academy UK are termly sessions where students come together to work on their playing in a group setting. They're a brilliant complement to 1:1 lessons — and a completely different experience.
Playing alongside other musicians builds confidence, sharpens listening skills, and gives students the chance to perform in a supportive, low-pressure environment. For many students, it's the first time they've ever played in front of anyone other than their teacher — and it's transformative.
Sessions are kept small — a maximum of five students per group — so everyone gets proper attention and time.
What Happens in a Masterclass?
Each session is tailored to the group, but typically covers:

Specific techniques eg. bow hold and bowing exercises, vibrato etc

Performing to others — playing pieces and receiving constructive feedback

Ensemble playing and listening skills

Technique workshops — bow holds, posture, tone production, dynamics

Performance confidence and stage presence

Rhythm, pulse, and musicianship games

Playing by ear and improvisation

Music theory for violinists
Masterclasses run as separate sessions for children and adults so the content, pace, and repertoire are always appropriate for the group.
Who Are They For?
Group Masterclasses are open to all violin students — whether you learn with Lexxie or with another teacher.
If you're learning the violin and want to develop your performance confidence and musicianship in a group setting, you're welcome.
All levels from beginner upwards are welcome. Groups are organised by approximate level where possible.
Why Bother With Group Sessions?
1:1 lessons are where technique is built. Group sessions are where musicians are made.
The experience of playing in front of others, listening to how someone else approaches the same piece, and receiving feedback in a group setting develops skills that private lessons simply can't replicate.
Many students find their confidence grows more in one masterclass than it does in months of private lessons alone.
Pricing
Per person per session £30
Maximum group size 5 students
Sessions run termly. Dates are announced in advance — get in touch to be added to the mailing list so you hear about upcoming sessions first.
